Tips for a greener lifestyle starting at home

There arw a number of things you can do to live a greener lifestyle and most will save you monry too.

1) Only boil the amount of water you need for one cup of tea, rather than half a kettle full.

2) Share tools and DIY equipment with your neighbours. Do you all need a mower or hedge trimmer.

3) When cooking place a lid on the saucepans and save energy and money with every meal.

4) Compost all your organinc waste.

5) Switch to energy saving light bulbs which can use over 80% less electricity and last so much longer.

6) Use reusable nappies and not disposable onces. This can save you over £600.

7) Make sure your hotwater tank is well insulated with a British Standard lagging jacket for about £10.

8) Insulate your loft to 270 mm and save a fortune on your heating bill.

9) Drink tap water and not bottled water.

10) Buy fair trade products.

11) Unplug your telephone charger as this uses about 1 Watt of electricity even when not being used.

12) Do not leave any of your household appliances turned on standby as this will still use a considerable amount of electricity.

13) Don't run water when brushing your teeth, only use the watert ap when you need to rinse.

14) Recycle - Recycle your glass, plastic, paper, cardboard and metal.

15) Always use recycled toilet paper - You do not need a top quality toilet paper as recycled paper will do just as good a job and if your buy it, it will increase the demand for more reycled paper.
